On Sunday, the Kellogg's Tour of Gymnastics Champions came to Boston's TD Garden and Spectrum Gymnastics was well represented in the audience! The dynamic show, organized by USA Gymnastics, features each of the different disciplines of gymnastics: artistic, rhythmic, trampoline, acrobatic, and aerial, highlighted by light shows, music, and comedy.
The gymnasts from Spectrum were thrilled to see all of their favorites live right before them. The tour features the 2012 Olympic gold medal winning team of Aly Raisman (FX gold, BB bronze), Jordyn Wieber (2011 World Champion), Gabby Douglas (AA gold), Kyla Ross, and McKayla Maroney (Vault silver), and members of the 2012 men's Olympic team: Jake Dalton, John Orozco, and Jonathan Horton. Also featured on the tour were members of the men's and women's National Teams: Sarah Finnegan, Rebecca Bross, Anna Li, 2008 Olympic Champion Nastia Liukin, two-time world champion and olympian Chellsie Memmell, Elizabeth Price, ten-time world medalist (and my personal favorite) Alicia Sacramone, Sabrina Vega, Chris Brooks, Josh Dixon, Glen Ishino, Alex Naddour, Paul Ruggieri, David Sender, and Brandon Wynn.
Julie Zetlin and Mary Sanders represented the beautiful and elegant Rhythmic Gymnastics, while trampolinists Savannah Vinsant and Stephen Gluckstein thrilled the crowd with their high-flying moves. Finally, Kristin Allen and Michael Rodrigues showed us how amazing acrobatic gymnastics can really be! John Macready (1996 olympic team member) hosted the show and brought comic relief to an already dynamic show. The show was broken up into several musical numbers that accompanied gymnastics of all kinds.
The Boston show was a sold out show. I've never seen more gymnasts, former gymnasts, coaches, and gymnastics enthusiasts in one place in my life! The lobbies were mobbed with gymnasts from all over New England. My favorite part was watching the girls I coach get excited about seeing their favorite gymnasts. Seeing their faces light up and hearing their cheers of excitement at getting a glimpse of their idols by far surpassed the show itself. I also enjoyed seeing all the different disciplines of gymnastics. It's not very often anything BUT artistic gymnastics gets thrust in the spotlight, so I really enjoyed watching several different aspects of this incredible sport.
At the end of the show, the Olympic Team members each sit in one Olympic Ring and are lifted up high above the crowd. What an image to end the show on!
